I am pleased to provide a brief summary of my experience and results with Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP® ).  My past history includes five previous myocardial infarctions, the first one at age 35 and the last one at age 63. I am now 78 years old. Previous surgical procedures included a four vessel by-pass procedure and ten years later placement of two stents.  I have a very irregular heart rate and experienced brief episodes of ventricular and atrial tachycardia which was treated by placement of a cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator five years ago.  In May of 2014 I had an episode of ventricular fibrillation corrected by the defibrillator.  Follow up cardiac studies revealed that I was in acute heart failure and had been experiencing  chronic heart failure with mild fluid retention and had developed cardiac dilatation.  A cardiac catherization revealed that the original graphs were occluded and that 3 of 4 stents were occluded.  There was a 90% stenotic lesion just distal to the remaining open stent.  The consultant surgeons all believed the surgical procedure necessary to correct the lesion was high risk with low potential benefit and likely would not prolong life.  EECP® was recommended.  While I was reluctant to undergo this treatment I am pleased to report that after about three weeks of treatment there was a noticeable benefit which continued to increase throughout the remaining treatments.  Due to my cardiac arrhythias and premature contractions the procedures were uncomfortable early in the treatment phase but improved throughout the treatments.  At the conclusion of the treatments my ability to walk at a normal pace increased from about 100 feet to almost one-half mile.  My overall strength improved to the point that I am now in my second week of cardiac rehab and continue to see noticeable improvement in activity levels, muscle strength, ability to walk greater distances at a faster pace.  I am convinced that I would not have been able to tolerate cardiac rehab without the improvement I received from the EECP® treatments and strongly recommend that EECP® should be considered in the more difficult and risky procedures as EECP® is a very, very low risk treatment option.  My experience with Dr. Gregory and his staff was outstanding and I am very pleased that my cardiologist and cardiac surgeons recommended Dr Brewer and EECP® to me.

Dr Brewer,

Thank you so much for your presentation and discussion of EECP® . We especially enjoyed your description of the atherosclerotic process. Our staff greatly appreciates your office staff for their prompt attention to your patients and responding to our requests for records, referrals, etc. We hope to be sharing more EECP® patients in cardiac rehab in 2010.

Dear Dr. Brewer and the EECP® crew,

I can truthfully say that I have had a wonderful experience with EECP® . When I started this therapy I was having difficult time breathing because of COPD. I was also having chest pain in the chest wall because of by pass surgery and staff infection.

I started EECP® and at the same time I started Cardiac Rehab. My experience has been wonderful for me. I went to 35 sessions with Cardiac Rehab. At the end my breathing was improved very much. My oxygen level was not dropping like it was when I started I have more energy and endurance. The EECP® , after 35 sessions has given me more energy. I am breathing easier. My oxygen level is not dropping. I am now walking up to 10,000 steps a day and lifting 15lb weights without running out of breath. I recommend EECP® and Cardiac Rehab for anyone that needs more energy, strength, better heart health, and easier breathing. I am amazed at what I was able to do at the close of these treatments. I could go to sleep and totally enjoy the hour. I must say thank you to the ladies that took care of me. I feel that I was being treated like a king. I have had a great experience. If I ever need EECP® again, I will not hesitation. I am very thankful for the Cardia Rehab and all who worked with me.

Thank you for the experience,

In January of 2008 I was told by Dr. Brewer and heart surgeon, Dr. Robert Helsel, that even though I needed a third open-heart surgery to bypass blocked arteries, I was not a candidate for the surgery. So, when Dr. Brewer suggested the EECP® treatments in November of 2009 I was ready to try anything that would be of help to me. Before the treatments I was unable to walk very far without pain in my legs and had shortness of breath. During the treatments I began to notice that I could walk longer distances without pain and did not get short of breathe as soon as I did before. After completing the series of 35 treatments I am able to walk without pain and am not as short of breathe as I was. I would recommend the therapy and would like to say that the technicians went out of their way to make the treatments as comfortable as they could.

To all the staff at Dr. Brewer’s office:

I want to say “thank you” for the way I was greeted and taken care of during my weeks of therapy. A great big “thank you” to the EECP ® . staff. The encouragement and explanations of what was happening to me were exemplary. The warm smiles and professional care mean a lot to someone who has been dealt a serious health issue such as mine. My energy and endurance have increased above my expectations. There will always be a soft spot in my heart for the very special ladies I have gotten to know. It is my privilege and responsibility to tell others about your care and the improvements in my life.My heart was massaged in more ways than I ever imaged. May God continue to bless you and your practice.
